Building Donor Relationships: Tips for Pregnancy CentersĀ 

Building donor relationships is crucial to growing your organization, maximizing impact, and receiving repeat donations. Without investing in your donor relationships, you may receive many one-time gifts but lack the deep connections you need to attract major and committed donors.

Tip 1. Get to Know Your Top Donors

Look at your donor list and identify who has given the most or very frequently over the last few years. Make a point to connect with each one individually, sending them thank-you notes. Also, consider calling them and/or inviting them for a meal or coffee.

You want to get to know these donors as much as possible. Ask many questions about their backgrounds and families, and why they are passionate about supporting your center. They may have an inspirational story to share.

After you meet, add the information you learned about your donor to your donor database. This will help you remember important details about your donors’ lives that you can refer back to the next time you contact them.

Tip 2. Keep Consistent Communication

Communicate frequently with all your donors through monthly newsletters or emails, social media posts, and website updates.

Aim to send at least one email or newsletter per month, and post on social media at least once a week. However, if you have the bandwidth, we’d recommend weekly emails and three donor social media posts per week.

If you have specific volunteer groups or prayer groups, you can also set up contact groups and send them group texts to check in,  share updates, and thank them for all they do.

Tip 3. Inspire with Videos

Videos can move hearts and spur action more than other kinds of marketing.

Purchase inspirational videos that show your donors how supporting your center can save and change lives. Posting these videos frequently reminds your donors of the reason for their support and keeps you top-of-mind.
